Bodhgaya Pilgrimage

The town of Bodhgaya in Northeast India is believed to mark the precise location of the Buddha’s enlightenment. In the winter months, pilgrims flock here from all over the world. At the heart of Bodhgaya, chanting in Tibetan, Pali, Burmese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Hindi, and English rises through the leaves of a great Pipal tree, descended from the one that sheltered the Buddha himself. These audio recordings span the various realms of Bodhgaya’s mandala, from the shade of the Bodhi Tree to the cafes, music stalls, and tumultuous streets of the town.
